Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! 

This is a special image for Mother's day, featuring Arian and her mother, the Empress of the Alorian Empire.  Arian is the youngest of three daughters, and while this means her royal status is low, she always has a special place in her mother's heart (despite her selfish and bratty behaviour).  I tried something a little different on this painting (mostly because I ran out of time), and did a greyscale rendering of the scene, focusing on light and dark contrasts.   I am pleased with how it turned out, but I think I will also try a fill colour version in the near future! The Empress's thrown is a giant gold sculpture designed with a mermaid motif, hinting at Alorian mythology and royal symbolism.  High above the grand hall is a star map of all the systems under Alorian control.
